Beware the cockatrix, for though it takes the form of a giant chicken, its very gaze can turn an adventurer to stone. I've always liked to think that the cockatrix just wants to be left alone, but likes the idea of eating shiny things left on its petrified victims... nothing but head canon there, but I like it.
